We offer specialized support for battery cell design and prototyping, focused on improving cell chemistry and performance for applications such as electric vehicles. During a recent client engagement, our services included:
  • Conducting comprehensive root-cause analysis of failed battery cells utilizing our expertise and in-house laboratory resources.
  • Identifying likely causes of cell deterioration, including electrode delamination, electrolyte decomposition, and gas formation.
  • Disassembling battery cells to determine potential failure modes and validating hypotheses with advanced methods such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and electrochemical assessments.
  • Delivering a detailed report outlining the findings and providing actionable recommendations for improvements to cylindrical battery cell designs.

Additionally, we designed and implemented a Design of Experiment (DoE) to optimize the chemistry of the prototype cells. This involved producing cell variants with different cathode, anode, electrolyte, and additive combinations, followed by performance evaluation based on cycle life and other key metrics. The final project stage involved manufacturing and testing 21700 cells with partners in Japan and locally. Our team oversaw prototype production, applied enhanced chemistries from DoE, ensured quality through inspections, and coordinated diverse tests.
